ADM Galveston, TX
Archer Daniels Midland Company, whose sourcing, transportation, storage and processing operations span the globe, operates a grain elevator at Piers 30-33 on the Port of Galveston in Texas.
When Hurricane Ike hit Galveston, water flooded the grain elevator and the plant's conveyer belts operating machinery and numerous electrical systems. Tri-City Electric Co. was able to respond quickly and efficiently to help ADM Grain repair and reconstruct damaged electrical systems throughout the facility.
A five-member team from the Tri-City Electric Co. Engineering & Integration division responded by designing, fabricating and integrating the new control system. Tri-City Electric Co. was able to utilize a national base of suppliers to expedite the purchase of materials to aid in a timely installation. Due to the magnitude of the natural disaster, local skilled labor was not available; therefore, Tri-City Electric Co. mobilized 14 of its nearly 400 electricians to complete the project.
As work progressed, ADM Grain approached Tri-City Electric Co. regarding capital improvements unrelated to hurricane damage. Tri-City Electric Co. helped in the capital improvement of conveyer belts and upgraded the shipyard dock controls. Integration of a new hazard monitoring system has also commenced.
