The renovation of Building 3 at Black Hawk College’s Campus in Moline, Illinois, was part of the institution’s Facilities Master Plan aimed at modernizing its 50-year-old facilities. The project transformed the aging structure into a state-of-the-art educational hub, enhancing the learning environment for students and faculty.

The comprehensive renovation included:

  • Twelve (12) new science labs
  • Seven (7) science prep and storage rooms
  • Five (5) classrooms and One (1) computer lab
  • Faculty offices and a new entryway
  • Athletics and fitness facilities, including a 4,800 sq. ft. weight training center
  • A new gymnasium for basketball and volleyball
  • A training room and campus police office
  • A food pantry

As a key partner in this project, Tri-City provided essential services that were integral to the building’s modernization:

  • Electrical Construction: Upgraded the building’s electrical infrastructure to support modern educational technologies and ensure safety and efficiency throughout the facility.
  • Structured Cabling: Installed a robust network of cabling systems to facilitate high-speed data transmission, supporting the college’s digital learning initiatives and administrative operations.
  • Security Solutions: Implemented advanced security systems, including surveillance cameras and access control systems, to enhance campus safety and protect valuable assets.
  • Audio/Visual Systems: Integrated state-of-the-art Audio/Visual equipment in classrooms, labs, and meeting spaces to support interactive learning and presentations.
  • Tri-City Ironworks: Completed structural setups for the project, including setting steel, hollow core, handrail, and stair platforms. The team also set the steel for the dugouts of the baseball and softball fields.

The renovation of Building 3 has significantly improved the campus environment, providing students and faculty with modern, efficient, and secure facilities. The enhancements support the college’s commitment to delivering high-quality education and fostering a conducive learning atmosphere. The Tri-City team worked closely with the owners and the construction team to provide a project schedule defining the design, procurement, and construction of the project, along with a detailed execution plan.
