Sterilite, the world’s largest manufacturer of plastic hardware, built a new 2,500,000 s.f. on 160 acres in the Eastern Iowa Industrial Center. The construction of this new facility located in Davenport, IA has created up to 500 new jobs for the local economy. The facility consists of 500,000 sq. ft. of manufacturing/office building and 2,000,000 sq. ft of warehouse/trucking terminal. There is a railyard with 100 car staging capacity, truck access and 160 loading dock areas, employee parking areas, and drives to serve the facility. The facility currently has forty-nine (49) extrusion/injection type molding machines producing various types/sizes of plastic containers with expansion possibilities of up to fifty (50) more molding machines in the 500,000 sq. ft. manufacturing/office building. The building consists of structural slabs, insulated metal wall panels and conventional steel for the exterior. Notable building installations include a large tank farm for plastic pellet storage/transportation, control system which transports plastic pellets thru a tube system to the extrusion machine where they are injected to create various size containers, eight (8) 15KV medium voltage substations, large chiller/compressor control room, large quantities of exhaust fans/damper controls and Engel extrusion machines for manufacturing plastic containers.
