When Parr Instrument Company — a globally recognized manufacturer of precision laboratory equipment with more than a century of operations in Moline — committed to a major expansion, they needed a partner capable of delivering across every dimension of a complex, multi-phase industrial build. Tri-City Group answered with the full power of its family of companies.

The project centered on the design/build construction of a new 54,000-square-foot state-of-the-art manufacturing facility alongside a comprehensive renovation of the existing plant. Together, the completed facility dramatically expands Parr’s production capacity and positions the company for continued growth as demand increases for the larger, more complex research equipment it supplies to the energy, chemistry, material science, defense, and higher education sectors.

Electrical & Specialty Systems – Tri-City Electric served as the electrical contractor of record, delivering comprehensive electrical construction services across both the new facility and renovated spaces. The scope extended well beyond power distribution — encompassing structured cabling infrastructure, audio/visual systems, HVAC controls coordination, and integration of specialized manufacturing equipment systems tailored to Parr’s advanced production environment.

Renewable Energy — Designed and installed a 406kW ballasted rooftop solar array featuring 700 bifacial 580W modules and six 62.5kW inverters. The team provided full-service delivery from conceptual design and financial modeling through engineering, procurement, and construction — equipping Parr with a long-term energy asset that supports operational efficiency and sustainability goals for decades to come.

Material Handling — Tri-City Automated Solutions engineered and installed a complete material handling infrastructure throughout the facility, including multiple floor-mounted jib cranes and overhead bridge crane systems sized for Parr’s increasingly large and complex product offerings. Paramount Millwright Services partnered on the installation and integration of all new and relocated crane systems, delivering flexible, high-capacity production spaces that include dedicated heavy material handling areas, covered loading docks, and high-clearance manufacturing bays.

Structural Steel & Precast — Tri-City Ironworks provided structural steel and precast erection services, establishing the durable, energy-efficient building envelope and structural framework at the core of the new manufacturing facility.

General Construction — Treiber Construction executed the large addition to the west of the existing plant, including foundations, floor slabs, and site paving, complemented by decorative concrete work — stamped patios and colored sidewalks — in the exterior gathering areas.

Masonry — B&B Masonry completed interior block wall construction within the addition, reinforcing the facility’s industrial-grade buildout with precision craftsmanship.

Fire Protection — Tri-City Fire Protection delivered a complete fire protection upgrade across the full facility — installing three wet sprinkler systems and one dry system in multiple coordinated phases aligned with both new construction and active renovation. The result is a modern, fully code-compliant system engineered to protect an advanced manufacturing environment without disrupting operations.

The Integrated Advantage

The Parr Instrument Company project is a clear demonstration of what Tri-City Group’s integrated, design/build model makes possible. By coordinating electrical, renewable energy, material handling, structural, fire protection, and general construction services under a unified team, project partners delivered a facility that is seamlessly built, precisely engineered, and ready to support Parr’s next century of innovation — all while reinforcing the company’s deep roots in the Quad Cities manufacturing community.
